When your child needs dental treatment, we understand that you want to have complete confidence that their smile and oral health is in the very best hands. We’re committed to treating all our patients as though they are members of our own family, especially our littlest visitors as we know their early experiences can have a big impact on their teeth, mouth and gums throughout their life.
Our experienced team are patient and understanding when it comes to providing dental treatment for children of all ages. From regular Dental Health Checks, to prevention of damage or decay, we will take the time to fully assess your child and explain everything to you both so we can decide the right approach together.
We provide a range of specialist dental treatments for children, for example, when your child turns 6 or 7, we can help to protect their back teeth from decay by applying fissure sealants. Another treatment to consider is a fluoride varnish to strengthen the enamel. This can be applied to both baby teeth and adult teeth every 6 months, usually from the age of 3 but in some cases we do offer it to younger children.
Other issues that can arise as children grow include tooth loss from injury, and movement of teeth caused by thumb sucking or tongue thrusting while swallowing. Let our experienced team support and guide you as we work together to develop a treatment plan to help your child have a beautiful smile they can be proud of and easily look after.
If your child has had a tooth knocked out, try to gently place the tooth back in the socket (only if it isn’t dirty). If this isn’t possible, don’t let the tooth dry out and don’t touch the root of the tooth. Instead, place it in a clean, sealed container with some milk and give us a call as soon as possible to make an appointment, bringing the tooth with you.
As part of our ongoing care of our youngest patients, we always have the future of their smile and oral health in mind. In addition to dental treatment and prevention of damage and decay, we will also monitor your child as they get older, to consider if they will require any orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth.
It could be that the adult teeth when they come through are crowded or misaligned in the mouth. This could lead to your child lacking confidence in their appearance, or having difficulty cleaning their teeth properly. Advances in dentistry mean that orthodontic treatments are now much more effective and discreet than many adults remember from their youth, so young people today can easily enjoy a straighter smile they’re proud to show off.
Although we don’t carry out children’s orthodontic treatment at our practice, we are able to refer onwards to a specialist colleague, who has the same friendly approach as our team. They will take the time to fully assess your child and understand their hopes and wishes, as well as fully explain the options to both of you so you can make an informed decision about the best way forward.
